"Nothing is impossible, the word itself says 'I'm possible'!"
My name is Orsolya Nagy and since I can remember I have always admired wildlife, and to have my own dog was my biggest dream. We lived in a flat with my family and none of my relatives were connected to dogs or any other animals. I was 8 when we moved to a detached house, and the big dream came true, I got my first dog, a golden retriever, namely Ingrid. She was a really good choice, however it was only a fortunate mistake. When I was 14 - and she was 6 I started to train her what was not so easy as she was quite an independent and challenging dog, but she loved working no matter if it was agility, obedience, or our favourite, heelwork to music. As we live about 100 meters from the countryside, we went for long walks there every day.
I got many books from my parents about dogs and dog sports. In one of these books there is a chapter about dog shows and when I started to use Internet my first thing was to check breeders and dog shows there. It didn't take much time to find a golden breeder young lady who was a handler on dog shows, and won the year's best junior handler title. I just loved the idea of training and presenting different kinds of breeds and dogs from the very first moments - unlike my family and friends, who saw it as a waste of time and money because without connections it is impossible to be successful in that world. I started to read articles and watch videos about handling and started to train Ingrid for this although I knew exactly she would never be a show dog, as she was not a purebred dog.
I attended to my first show in 2010 as a junior handler with a golden I met only that day, and of course I won nothing, but it was a great experience and it encouraged me to train and learn more. I tried a new breed, the miniature black schnauzer on my 3rd show and we won the 2nd place with her, that's where I think my handling career started. The owner of that dog, who is a quite famous breeder became my mentor and took me for several shows. On one of the shows I met another golden retriever breeder (as no matter how many breeds I have tried it is still my absolute favourite) and we became really great friends, and she promised me I could take a puppy from her anytime I wanted. A bit later, in 2013 the "dream litter" was born in her kennel (Tikotta), the sire was a beautiful golden imported from one of England's top kennel, the Nunsbrook and the bitch was the breeder's top gundog. I picked a really promising dog, known as Ian - officially Tikotta Pole Position. That time I just wanted a showdog with whom I can do heelwork to music and maybe some working, but I didn't had any plans with hunting. In that year I met a long time no seen friend on a dog event and he invited me to a hunting to take some photos - as photography is my other passion. I was really excited, maybe a bit afraid as well how I will react if someone shots a game.
Well I think I do not need to tell you, it was like finding myself on the hunting, I became addicted to it. I started to train Ian for hunting, and since he has passed the hunting ability exam we have spent most of our time on the fields, if not with hunting than with training.
He became a quite successful showdog as well - actually he was the Top Winning Show Golden Retriever in Hungary in 2015, but he lives only for hunting. It was not easy to start working with him as most of the people was quite sceptical when they saw us. A golden retriever from show line and a young girl does not seem very serious. Here in Hungary most of the people hunts with pointing dogs, but our hard work seems to pay off, and more and more people like hunting with us - and we were not only highly appreciated on huntings, but on Working Tests as well, in 2016 we won our first Working Test. We - both Ian and I - totally became addicted to the working retriever world.
I am extremely thankful for those few people who have believe in us and share their knowledge with me and I really hope one day I will be among the big trainers.
I didn't stop handling on shows, made my biggest dreams come true, had numerous Best in Show winners, World Winners, several First Prize at Crufts and Champions, had the opportunity to show in many European countries and in the USA, but my opinion has changed a lot about the show-world.
I have always planned to go to Veterinary University, but I realized the only thing I want to learn is about Wildlife Conservation and Management, so I started my studies in Szent István University in this subject in 2015. Since then I am a member of the C.I.C. - Council for International Game and Wildlife Conservation - Young Opinion Working Group and hopefully in the future I can work as a Wildlife Manager and continue working with my dogs.
I am happy that I have the opportunity to campaign several Top dogs on shows, have some at our home to condition and train for over years.
Huge thanks to all trainers who helped us, to all owners for trusting in my work to all judges for appreciating our dogs qualities and to all friends for supporting me.
